Project #3 reflection

In unit 7, we read two editorials which are related to Capital Punishment. First one is Life in Prison Is Still Life: Why Should a Killer Live? , and second one is Why Do We Kill People to Show That Killing People Is Wrong? One is agreeing to have CP, and the other one is disagreeing to execute CP. Two editorials talk about the pros and cons of CP. First one expresses that the murderers should pay the penalty for killing people, and CP could make the society safety and better. While second one emphasizes that innocent people may be killed by mistake, and CP may deprive the right to life.

In project #3, we have online group presentations. There are two group presentations that impressed me the most from last week ago. One is Peggy’s group, and the other is Emily’s group. In Peggy’s group presentation, they have three advantages that impressed me the most. First, they have clear pictures to support their examples. Second, they use pie chart to analyze the cost of executing CP. Third, they use the quote to conclude the project. And in Emily’s group presentation, they have three advantages that impressed me the most. First, their slide is very transparent, so we can understand their arguments. Second, they use form to show the pros and cons of CP. Third, their counter argument is evident to show another thought to abolish CP.

In Project #3, I learned three new things. First is counter argument, I haven’t learned it before. And Tammy asked us to show counter argument in our group presentation, so that our presentation could be objective. Second is the movie The Green Mile, I really enjoy this movie. Although we don’t have enough time to finish the movie, I learned that everything has a double-edged sword. We can’t criticize what we have seen by only one side, and we should have media literacy. Third is global facts about Capital Punishment. In every place, each country has their own opinion to execute CP or not. I learned that we should respect every country’s choice. All of us are pursuing a better and safety society, so there is no one right or wrong to execute CP or to abolish CP.

Semester reflection

During this semester, we had done three different projects. Cover letter, A Fragile Place, and Capital Punishment. In project #1, it was the first time for me to write Cover letter. At the beginning, I felt frustrating because I didn’t know how to form a formal Cover letter and how to match the company’s mind to hire me. At the end, Tammy taught me to add more experiences to support my ability to get the job. In project #2, we searched for many tourist attractions which are destroyed by people in the class. I never thought about this important issue. As a tourist, I just care about the tourist attraction is appealing or not, and how long would it take me to get there. But through Project #2, I began to pay attention that tourist attractions may turn into fragile places. Therefore, we should protect every land which we had been to, and we had to be kind to Earth or we would be punished by the forces of nature (landslide, drought, and Covid-19 and so on). In project #3, we discussed the pros and cons of Capital Punishment. It is a meaningful issue because this issue is highly discussed by us nowadays. We had online group presentations on teams, and I really enjoy others’ slide and their opinions of CP.

However, I still want to improve Project #3, even if I had earned a final grade. Tammy told us that we would have a presentation in class, and we would make a poster to show our result. Due to Covid-19, our plans are canceled completely. I looked forward to this activity, but we had no choice to accept the truth. Besides, I have never experienced this interesting poster presentation, and it might be a spectacular presentation when students presented their project.

Because of Covid-19, our life had totally changed. I have to admit that I am a couch potato at home. I think I am going to sprout at home, although it is our responsibility to stay at home. Since 17^th, 2021, we have been having the online classes on teams. As a commuter, online class is beneficial to me. I can have a beauty sleep, and I don’t need to spend two hours on commute. As a student, it has pros and cons to have online class. Online presentation is convenient because we can have the meeting at everywhere or anytime. Most teachers ask us to show the slide on teams, and we can clearly see what other students are talking about. (Compare to school’s projector) The disadvantage to have online class is that it lacks authenticity. Compare online class to face-to-face class, I prefer the latter. Even though I had to spend time on commute, I want to meet my teachers and friends in person. However, I decide to watch all the movies on Netflix, and I plan to read mythologies which I would learn when I am a junior.
